A perfect metaphor for a rainy rush hour in downtown Portland. Atop the Loyalty building in downtown Portland stood this grand sign. Olympia Beer aka “Oly” was an iconic Pacific Northwest brand for over half a century. I wanted to bring color and life to a scene from long ago and this perspective is on SW 3rd near Morrison in the early sixties. Downtown workers were probably rushing home to watch The Flintstones or the Dick Van Dyke show. JFK was president, space exploration and the Cold War were top of mind and a cheap lager was the right elixir.
