“Left Field”

43” x 33” acrylic on canvas, framed

The iconic backdrop to Fenway’s left field is commonly referred to as the “Green Monster.” I’m a diehard Red Sox fan, so I decided to paint Boston’s four legendary left fielders. I positioned Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice and Manny Ramirez in period uniforms right in front of the famous scoreboard in left field. My objective was to contrast eras as well as players. In Fenway Park, players, uniforms and even fans may change, but the backdrop does not. I was lucky enough to see this for myself last September when my wife and I finally got to visit Boston, along with two friends, and saw not one, but TWO Red Sox games. To say I was in heaven is an understatement. Boston and Fenway exceeded all my expectations and I can’t wait to go back some day. Long live this American treasure.
